Quilt Info

gogquiltFor the year 2000 Millennium our Chicago sisters sponsored an old fashioned quilting bee as part of our Friday Night Mixer. In addition to books and reading, we discovered a strong percentage of us also enjoyed sewing!

Drawing from a strong African American contribution to the art of quilting within our cultural past, our Chicago sisters hoped hosting an old fashioned, sit around the table quilting bee would provide a wonderful setting for us that evening … and it was grand!

Chicago charged the entire organization to work on their individual squares for their chapter during the year.

Borrowing the Crazy Quilt theme, which lends itself perfectly to the variety of women in our organization, chapters worked on their squares during the year.

This is our keepsake that celebrates our members, and to hand down through this millennium together.

We prominently feature our quilt at most Annual Award Weekends and other GOG sponsored events. As new chapters come on board since we originally assembled it, we proudly add their squares.
