Postponement of 2021 AAW
The Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to approve the postponement of our premier 30th Anniversary Author Awards event.
The global health crisis that began in February still poses a significant threat to our country. While we are encouraged by the scientific and medical efforts to understand the challenges associated with COVID-19, we are still many months from having an FDA approved vaccine available to the general public. In the meantime, the CDC has recommended as a safety measure for all citizens to avoid large events and mass gatherings. Because we are committed to the health and safety of our members and their families, we expressed these concerns with the L.A. Grand Hotel. They shared our concerns and have cancelled all events at their location until further notice. We are hopeful that this health crisis will be behind us by our 2022 celebration which we intend to celebrate in Los Angeles.
We will refund registration, dinner and Gala tickets. The Board is meeting this Saturday to work out the logistics for how we will refund all money.
Additionally, the Board will discuss notifications to others we were working with to put on our 30th Anniversary signature event.
These are certainly trying times, and we’ve established a dedicated email address for you to contact us with any needs or concerns GOGCares2020@gmail.com. We commit to staying connected throughout this crisis, and we plan to host a few virtual events, so keep a watch out for more details to follow shortly.
Lastly, Go On Girl! Book Club will rise to this unprecedented challenge together. Because of the determination, endurance, fortitude, perseverance, resilience, and strength instilled in us by our legacy as strong Black women, we will prevail in the same manner as our ancestors did throughout history.
Thanks for supporting Go On Girl! Book Club.
