Award Description: Yaa Gyasi was born in 1989 in Mampong, Ghana. Gyasi earned a B.A. in English at Stanford and a M.A. from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. She is a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop where she held a Dean’s Graduate Research Fellowship. Her short stories have appeared in African American Review and Callaloo. Her debut novel, is the Homegoing (Knopf, June 2016).
